Trip to Weston Super Mare

The first thing we learned today is ‘Weston-super-Mare’. It sounds very grand, but it’s just medieval Latin for ‘Weston-on-Sea’, and that’s the most important thing about it. Weston comes from the Anglo-Saxon for the west tun or settlement; super mare is Latin for "above sea".

It's on the Bristol Channel 18 miles (29 km) south west of Bristol between Worlebury Hill and Bleadon Hill.
